Before battle, the samurai tied on his menpō. The face that laughed, ate and talked about everyday things with his family disappeared behind the mask. What was left was something else: something with a single purpose. The Night Shadow Menpō is that exact moment, the second a person becomes a warrior.

Matte black. Hundreds of carved lines.

And a single point of warmth: the gold of the fangs.

Japan's great armorers carved menpō to follow the muscles of the face: the lines of anger, the tension in the jaw, the expression of someone clenching their teeth. They weren't after a handsome face. They wanted one that had already made up its mind.

This menpō is made the same way. Diagonal lines run across the whole surface as if the face were in motion, and the burgundy accents in the grooves look like traces of something that has already happened.

It's not a costume. It's high-density resin in matte black, carved with hundreds of lines that follow the shape of the face. The grooves carry burgundy accents and the fangs are gold. It covers from the nose to the chin and has an adjustable strap so you can wear it.

It's the most understated piece in the collection and the one that photographs best at night: over black clothes, only the glint of the fangs shows.

A shadow doesn't need a face. Only intent.

How to wear it

Wear it with black clothes and a strong side light, red or white: the matte black disappears and only the lines and the gold remain. It's the go-to piece for night photo shoots.
