FACE OF THE STORM // 嵐の面

Some masks hold a single emotion. This one holds two. Above, carved ivory with spiral eyes: the calm before everything begins. Below, aged darkness and engraved waves: the storm that has already arrived. The Face of the Storm doesn't choose between them. It carries both at once.

Like the sky just before the thunder.

Like anyone who has learned to hold both.

In Japanese folklore, Raijin and Fūjin — the god of thunder and the god of wind — race across the sky when a storm breaks. Raijin beats his drums to make lightning; Fūjin opens his bag and lets the wind out. The two guard the gates of many temples, one on each side, brows furrowed and mouths open.

This face takes their fury and freezes it in a single expression: the frown of thunder, the breath of wind, the fangs of someone who won't back down.

It's not a costume. It's high-density resin, with the upper half in ivory with carved spirals and the lower half in aged dark brown with engraved waves. Light lines are painted into the grooves, like lightning cutting through stone.

It comes with a stand so you can display it upright on a table or shelf, like a collector's piece.

Calm and storm aren't enemies. They're the same sky.

How to display it

Stand it on a desk, a bookshelf or a coffee table at eye level. It's a piece made to be seen up close: the lightning in the grooves only shows when you lean in.

Hung on a light wall, the ivory-and-dark contrast becomes bold and graphic.
